How to write a strong CV as a data analyst

Concrete, no clichés — what works with recruiters.

Tools + impact, not just tools

Everyone writes "SQL and Python". What sets you apart: what did you do with them and what changed measurably? "Built a forecasting dashboard used weekly by 12 category managers" is stronger than "Tableau experience".

Scale of impact in numbers

For data-analyst roles three numbers are king: revenue/cost impact (£), efficiency gains (hours saved, refresh time), and dataset size/users (12 stakeholders, 500K customers, 8M rows). Pick one per bullet.

Tool overlap with your target role — match exactly

Recruiters at Skyscanner, Monzo, Ocado, Boohoo use keyword matching. If the job ad mentions dbt + Looker and you have it, write exactly those words. Not "building transformations" — "building dbt models".
